My Story
A Constant battle of self doubt
My name is Chris and this is my blog!
Throughout my entire life, all I’ve ever wanted to do was fly. I’m now a commercial airline pilot living in Australia. In recent times though, I’ve learnt that if I really want to future proof my life that I would need to do something else on the side.
Here’s how it went:
As a kid I would go to the airport and look up at the pilots and just look at them in amazement. How cool it would be to fly an aeroplane for a job and travel the world while getting paid to do it!
So I went to work really hard at landing (pardon the pun) my dream job. After high school I went to a flying school to learn to fly full time and gained my commercial pilot’s licence. I slugged it out for 10 years before being given the opportunity to fly for an international airline with jets!
I’ve made it! I was so happy to receive the call from recruitment that they had accepted me into their airline. My dream had finally come true!
Life was going great, on the long flights over the Pacific Ocean I’d start chatting to the older guys about their careers and pretty much every single one of them had some sort of side hustle, supplementing their income. Their thinking was, that should they lose their medical (and can no longer fly) then what else could they do?
This got me curious, so I started at looking for ways I could continue to fly full time while supplementing my own income. I thought if these much wiser crew members were doing something else other than flying then perhaps I should too!
But what to do? All I’d ever known was aviation and flying. I had never ever thought about a business before and had no idea where to start. So in 2015 I went and did some research….a lot of research!
I eventually settled on something I’d be interested in and started with Amazon as an FBA (Fulfilled by Amazon) seller. It was great because I’m in Australia and I could sell anything I wanted to the largest shopping centre in the world.
Let’s face it, my first product sucked and it tanked hard. But that didn’t stop me from trying again.
Then COVID-19 happens. In an instant, I’m told I’m on stand down. The commercial airline industry basically shuts down and I’m now looking at a redundancy. Great!
Now what do I do? My Amazon business is slowly growing but I can’t pull any money out of it, it’s not at that point yet.
So, back to my research for the last 5 years I had studied the most successful entrepreneurs in the world, Gary V, Richard Branson, Tony Robbins, etc. But again there were no skills that I could teach anyone. No one was learning to fly!
Then came the idea of blogging. You know when you scroll through your social media feed and you’ve had a thought that day then suddenly it is shown everywhere?Â
Well from my Amazon businesses, I had about 5 years of experience in blogging with niche sites, content marketing, SEO, website development, and leading a team.Â
The problem was, I had paid marketing agencies for help but got no results. This was really frustrating because I couldn’t invest anymore into my business. So I had no choice but to learn digital marketing.
Now don’t get me wrong, I love a great success story.
Everything needs to be perfect before launch. This is a major battle that I’ve been having with myself in my own businesses through the years. It would take me months and months of planning so that it could be perfect. I think I was like that so I would be confident enough to show it to family and friends.
But whenever I did tell them about my new (soon to be unsuccessful) business, I thought that this would be met with encouragement and praise, but far out did it backfire in almost every instance.
Whatever, I’ll still continue and show them! No matter how hard I would work at my business, that self-doubt in the back of my mind was a strong one and to over come it, this is what I’m going to do…
I WANT TO HELP YOU!
If you’re like me and unsure of how your new business is going to go, if you don’t see immediate results, you get discouraged and sit behind your laptop and feel like you’re going to quit – you most likely will 100% of the time.
If I had never committed to anything, never gave it everything I had, never went all in, stayed in my comfort zone and protected in my own little bubble, then I would never had made it as an airline pilot.Â
Now I’m bringing that same determination to online business.Â
So… I’m putting my face to it. Yes, for real. This is me!
I’ve always loved helping people. I get a real kick out of making a difference in someone’s life. I don’t need to reach a million people to feel good. Just one person a day is enough for me. Happiness is infectious. If that one person feels good and then goes on to help someone else then it gets bigger and bigger.
The Goal of this Site
What I want to do is to show you and help you that even if you know nothing about blogging like I did (remember I’m still a commercial airline pilot first and foremost) that you can still grow your business to become as successful as you want it to be!
So here’s what I’m doing to help:
1. I have learned a lot about myself over the years (even through my professional career) to learn to let go and do what I want to do and basically not care about what other people think.
2. I’m launching this site knowing that it’s not perfect. Done is better than perfect anyway.
3. I’m putting my real name to this blog.
4. I will not be telling friends of family until I’m making at least $10,000/month.
5. To gain some credibility, I have upskilled myself by doing courses on the latest information from some of the best online resources in SEO, content marketing and Google Analytics. This is a continuous process of keeping up to date with the industry so I can bring you the latest content.Â
There’s a lot of “About me” pages out there that just tell you about how awesome they are, and while that’s cool, I want to be 100% real and transparent with you. Do something different to what most bloggers out there are doing.
I’m not a writer. I’ve never been good at writing, but I have learnt a thing or two along the way. I hated English in school and struggled to write essays. At university, I found that I could write about things I was passionate about though.
Where I am Today
So this is where I am today. I’m a husband and father of two kids. I love martial arts (Hapkido), love keeping fit (kinda needed if I want to be a martial artist), and just love flying.
